Tamale City players and officials were attacked after their game against Betpawa Ghana Premier League leaders, Aduana Stars, on Sunday.
The teams faced off in a Week 25 fixture in the league which Aduana Stars won by a lone goal via a second half injury time penalty. The result kept them at the top of the league table on 44 points; 3 ahead of Bechem United.
According to reports, players and officials from Tamale were attacked on their way out of Dormaa as suspected fans of Aduana stars hurled stones at the Tamale City bus. Images of the damaged bus and some players of Tamale City have been widely published with many observers calling for more stringent punishment for those involved in match violence in Ghana football.
Reports say about five players from Tamale City were injured in the episode but it is still unclear what led to the unfortunate events in Dormaa.
Tamale City host Becheem united on Friday in their next BetPawa Premier League fixture.
