Former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has introduced ‘Ahotor Project’ to empower the National Democratic Congress’ grassroots.
The project among other things is to empower the grassroot to finance most of their own activities and also to enable them work hard to win the 2024 general elections.
The Ahotor Project was officially launched on Thursday, June 23 at the NDC National Headquarters with support from national executives to grant financial autonomy in all the 275 constituencies across the country.
Speaking at the launch, the former Finance Minister, Dr Duffuor said the Ahotor Project have been designed in such a way that, each constituency shall receive accessories, logistics, and equipment worth 30,000 Ghana cedis to enable them run their administrations smoothly.
He said the project is under the management of the constituency leadership, and would be accountable to their constituents.
“What is needed most is for the executives to remain transparent in the management of the initiative in their various constituencies for all party members to feel part of the project,” he stated
Dr. Kwabena in a short remarks, thanked the NDC National leadership for embracing the project saying, he is optimistic that those that the project would be entrusted into their care, would manage and take the responsibility of the project with integrity.
Dr. Duffuor however assures that, the Ahotor Project is the first step of many projects in the pipe line to help build the finances of the party.
According to him, it is his vision to see the grassroots progressing financially in other for the NDC to mobilize force ahead of the 2024 elections.
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketia on his part thanked Dr. Duffuor for donating such valuable items to support the party saying, the project is the first of its kind since NDC was formed.
He added that, the party always survive on dues and support from former appointees of the party and urged others to emulate what Dr. Duffuor has done.
Mr. Nketia indicated that, because of record keeping and past experience, the party has decided that all donation in name of the party being for the Regional, or Constituency are now been channelled through the party headquarters before it is being sent down.
The Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo on his part also commended Dr. Duffuor for the donation and urged others to also do same to enable the party clinched power from the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections.
Other leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that accompanied Dr. Duffuor included; Hon. Fritz Baffour, Hon. Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, Mr. Yaw Boateng Gyan and Mr. Kofi Akins.
