David Ochieng, a Ugandan pastor, has closed down his church and abandoned his ministerial work after winning a huge sum of money through sports betting.
Local media reports he hit a UGX100 million which is equivalent to GH₵561,002.00 when converted to Ghana cedis.
The shutdown of his church has left his congregation in disbelief and confusion.
Church members who went for midweek service became stranded when they went to the premises and realised the building has been locked by their pastor who was a 100 million Ugandan shillings richer.
The clergyman was contacted and he confessed that the reason he chose to work in the vineyard of God was strictly to earn income to survive and not because he was called.
Ochieng further described the winning as a blessing from God and a swift way to get him out of the poverty he was in because he could not sustain himself with money from his poor congregation.
